Nigerian women have an incredibly long history of organizing against social injustice, from the 1929 Aba women’s Riot, protesting increased colonial taxes, to the Yaba Market March of 2018, protesting widespread sexual harassment.
The heroines of these movements are acknowledged here: in red is Madam Ikonna Enyia, (Aba Riot Organizer) and beside her is Damilola Marcus (Market March Founder) two women who uphold decades of activism against a myriad of social issues, in a country that still considers women second class citizens.
